Rank of the Hero of Soviet Union

 Rank of the Hero of Soviet Union – the higher honorary title in the USSR which was appropriated for fulfilment of a heroic act. It is established by the Decision of the Central Electoral Committee of the USSR from 4/16/1934.
The medal «Gold star» is founded on August, 1st, 1939 by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme body of the USSR «About additional distinctions for Heroes of Soviet Union» and became the basic symbol of rank ГСС in our country.
  The first in 1934 of rank award pilots – participants of rescue of crew of a steamship "Cheljuskin". All rank it has been awarded over 12,7 thousand persons.
